Lone Tree on the Water

Italy’s glacier formed Lake Como is deep, filling in the space between alpine mountains. It is a region classed as humid subtropical. With the combination of deep, cold lake waters and warm, moist air what can result is a lot of fog. That is what I encountered during an early morning in late autumn – a lot of fog and overcast skies. The fog was so dense that the mountains bordering the lake were almost invisible. Almost all of the color was washed out by the weak, scattered, morning light. What remained was a pale blue caste to the scene that contrasted nicely with the dark tones defining the single tree.
