FROM IMAGINATION TO CREATIVITY

- Becoming A Better Photographer -

I have always had a passion for creativity and its relationship with imagination. Fueled by that passion, the two became the foundation of my photographic endeavors. I have been called a philosophical photographer by both peers and students. My approach to photography runs counter to the more conventional thinking of what photography is (or expected to be). As such, my ever-evolving photographic “style” reflects how I define photography.

- Awareness, Visualization, Imagination, and Creativity –

All are part of the creative process that our brains go through when producing visual imagery. The image that it produces is based on the visual perception drawn from sensory information received. Through discussion, examples, and short stories, I dwell on the photographic process that involves using these abilities. All four are an essential part of a photographic process that is set into motion long before the technical aspects of creating an image come into play. Without an understanding and making good use of them, your image making can never achieve its full potential.

In this eSeries, I share my thoughts and philosophy as a mentor and photographic artist. An artist whose goal is to invoke more meaning and emotional connection to your images than just the subjects portrayed. The eSeries focuses on the photographer rather than photographic techniques, tools, or post-processing. The emphasis is on developing your imagination and vision along with the factors and forces that can either enhance or hinder your ability to be creative. All of which need to be considered, understood, and employed long before you decide to pick up a camera.
